GENERAL MOTORS ENGINES LABORATORY
History
The GM Engines Laboratory was established with major support from the General Motors Foundation, for the purpose of enhancing undergraduate education.
The Lab has since become a centerpiece of the undergraduate engineering program.
Juniors taking the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory course use the facility regularly, as do students in the Chemical and Electrical Engineering programs.
The Engines Lab is also used to do research on emissions, fuel injection systems and more recently, hybrid engines and fuel cell technology.
Following the leadership role of the General Motors Corporation, other industrial companies have donated equipment and provided design assistance to the Laboratory.
The Laboratory is continually evolving, not only in its experimental facilities but also in its educational program.
