The School of Graduate Studies has implemented an on-line application. It is recomended that you use this system to ensure accuracy when submitting your application. It will also help to improve the ease with which you are able to track the status of your application afterwards. Acknowledgement of your on-line application means we have received all of your materials and your application is ready to be reviewed.
Applications are reviewed twice a year; in February for the Fall semester, and in October for the Spring semester.
Please follow the instructions listed below.
Your application is comprised of separate forms, designated Part A and Part B.
Part A and Part B are to be completed and returned to the department you select. This will be done automatically when you submit your on-line application. Other required supporting items identified in the Application Checklist and described in these instructions should be sent together in a single envelope to facilitate processing and to avoid an incomplete application due to the documents being inadvertently separated. Send this envelope to the MAE Student Affairs Office, whose mailing information is listed on that page.
Although there are no hard deadlines for domestic applicants, international application materials should be received in our office (not postmarked) by:
Due to the strick SEVIS rules, receiving your material by these dates will allow your application to be processed in a timely manner.
If you wish to be considered for financial aid you must indicate so in item 9 of Part A of your Application. The department faculty make the final decisions concerning the award and type of aid offered to the student applicants. Any supplemental forms for aid consideration are sent to you directly by the department. Decisions on awarding aid occur at various times during the application process, but generally are announced in March for fall semester and in November for spring semester enrollment.
If you are not a U.S. citizen, you should submit with Application Part A an affidavit of financial support sufficient to cover your anticipated expenses. In the event of your admission to the University without an aid award, such certification on file will facilitate authorization of the appropriate visa.
On your application forms (A and B), you are required to identify all post-secondary educational institutions you have attended, and an official transcript from each is required to be enclosed with Part A of your application.
Please type or print your name and address on the envelopes before enclosing one with each request for the official transcript to your college/university registrar(s). You may use additional envelopes of your own, provided each envelope is returned sealed and signed by the registrar across the flap.
You must submit three recommendation forms with your Part A of your completed application. It is suggested that these recommendations come from those sufficiently familiar to assess your academic preparation, abilities and accomplishments. Use your own envelopes for recommendations; however, each is to be returned sealed and signed by the respondent across the flap.
If it is more convenient, these letters can also be submitted via the on-line application system. Instructions should be found on that system which is run by Graduate Studies.
A nonrefundable application fee of $50 is required for each application submitted, and is to be remitted with Part B of your application. Please make your check or money order payable to Case Western Reserve University. Applicants from outside the United States must remit the fee either by International Money Order or by a check drawn on a U.S. bank. If your fee is being paid by check from another person, your name must appear on the face of that check.
Official score reports of all standardized tests (GRE, TOEFL, etc.) designated for receipt by the University (Code 1105) will be coordinated with your application by the Graduate Admission Officer. Pending our receipt of your scores from the testing agencies, you may also want to send a copy of your “candidate score report” when you receive it.
The test scores are currently reported electronically. The School of Graduate Studies and the EECS department can view the official scores as needed.
You are free to include with your application any supporting materials of your own selection, e.g., a list of your publications, or a summary of a paper. CD’s or full publications are rarely looked at in total so a synopsis is recommended.
Use the Application Checklist to ensure that all parts of your application are gathered and sent to the proper places.
